To practice the break, place one ball on the rear center of the table and strike it as hard as you can to make the cue ball stop dead.
Make sure to place a soft pillow at the end of the table so that the object ball does not skip off the table.
By doing this, you can greatly increase the number of practice shots you can take without worrying about damaging anything.
